Science City
 
Science City is a full of knowledge and adventure and an unique centre of Science, Communication and Entertainment. This amazing engineering marvel is situated on the confluence point of Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and the Park Circus Connector. Science City, the Largent Science Centre in the Sub-Continent, was established in 1997, under the National Council of Science Museums, the apex body of  Science Museums / Centres in India. The Science City is a remarkable place for budding scientists as it is with the elderly. A whole new world of Science & Technology opens up in front of naked eyes. Memories of which linger on for the long time.
 
The Science City built on vast expenses of land charms with its greenery and beautiful flower gardens. The sheer enormity of the Science City baffles the first time visitor. It can be said that the Science City is a tribute to Kolkata’s contribution to the world of science, courtesy, Meghnad Saha, Satyen Bose and others of their ilk.
 
The Science City consists two facilities, the Science Centre and the Convention Centre. The Science Centre complex compromises Space Odyssey, Dynamotion, Evolution Theme Park, Maritime Centre and a Science Park. The Space Odyssey houses India’s first large Format Film Theatre – a circular auditorium with a dome shaped ceiling which, from the interior looks like an inverted bowl. It is one of the most awesome contrivances of generating the superb sensation of voyaging into the outer space, with an aim of discovering the extra-planetary life in the fathomless universe, beyond exploration. The slanting dome-shaped theatre, having a holding range of 360 people , can throw one into the over briming thrill of enjoying the exclusive Astrovision, together with the mind-blowing Universum. At the Space Theatre, the adventurous visitor can undergo, a fearsome expedition in the wild interiors of the make-believe Serengeti Reserve Forest . This unique Space Theatre is the single example in India . The first of this type is there in Japan.
 
Another major attraction is the Musical Fountains where coloured jets of water dance to the Sound of Music.
 
The Science City of Kolkata is a favourite destination among children as well as adults. The ground floor of the centre introduces real life scientific experiences like, quick Sand,Tornado, Energy Ball, Occean Waves etc. These special attractions let shiver run down the spine due to its extremely adventurous nature. The ground floor also includes some Optical Illusions. It is fun to watch numerous shapes infront of the Optical Mirrors.
 
The Quick Sand is a mind boggling experience where ground beneath slipping away, somewhat like Earth Quake. The world of Tornedos and Quick continue to entice people. The trip is incomplete without the astounding adrenaline raising Time Machine which causes one to believe in a reversal of one’s situation back in time. Here it allows the visitor to experience an enchanting feigned journey through space or going back by crossing the the gate of time. The Aquatic World comprises of Aquariums with some of the most exotic fishes swimming in almost real environment. This also has some specimens of Insects, which give it a very mysterious touch to the whole surrounding.
 
There is an artificial Jurassic Park where incredible life size Dinosaurs gnaw and guffaw. The Rope Way offers an exiting ride and an out of the world experience when in the middle of no where the cabin is suspended.
 
The Science City has a large convention centre complex with all modern amenties.The main auditorium can accommodate 2300 persons. The side auditorium can accommodate 450 people. In addition there are 8 halls in the adjacent building, the capacity of which varies from 200 to 250 people. All are air conditioned and fully equipped with latest audio visual system. The basement is ideal for poster presentation. There is a huge open field just behind the main auditorium. The lounges (Durga Mandap, Bengal Gallery & Mukta Mancha), food plaza and scientific exhibitions will be organized in this space.
 
This world of interesting things is only possible due to the wonder of science and the way in which they are portrayed to the common people makes it easier for the common man also to relate to science.
