NAVAGRAHA TEMPLE : Atop the hill of Chitrachal in east Guwahati, Navagraha Temple is also known as the “ Temple of Nine Planets or Celestial Bodies”. As the name indicates, Navagraha Temple dedicated to the nine planets of solar system. An ancient seat of Astrology and Astronomy, the temple is surrounded by large trees. Housed in a single red dome in beehive style, the central Shivalingam is encircled by nine representating planets. Two more were added, Rahu and Ketu, the Dragon’s head and the Dragon’s tai or the ascending and descending order of the Moon. The temple was built by the erstwhile ruler of the region, King Rajesvar Singh in 1752. . The temple tower was destroyed by an earthquake, but was reconstructed later.
