Chardham Temple Opens in Sikkim

Adi Shankaracharya of Badrinath Swarupananda Saraswati Maharaj on Tuesday ( 08-11-2011) ritually gave life to all the images at “ Chardham”, a newly constructed temple at Solophok in Namchi in South Sikkim. The temple complex has been built on a hilltop at a height of 4800 feet from where Mount Kanchenjunga and 12 other Himalayan Peaks are visible.

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling who attended the Puja had conceived the idea of building a religious centre and a cultural heritage complex at Namchi. The entire project cost of Rs. 150 crores has come as a grant from the planning commission.

Temples of four “ Dhams” of  Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram have been replicated in the complex. Besides, there are “ 12 Jyotirlingas”, an 108 feet statue of Bhagwan Shankar and a 16-feet statue of Kirateswar. There is also a Sai temple, a prayer hall and a water body. There is also a guest house, a 100 bed dormitory and a cafeteria. The foundation stone of the complex had been laid in 2005.
