Tourists visiting Sandakphu, the highest point of West Bengal, will now have to undergo a mandatory health check-up at Maneybhanjung, around 32 kms from Sandakphu, to ensure they are fit and don’t fall ill there.
The move has been prompted by two deaths, reported from the region due to altitude sickness. If a tourist wants to visit the region despite his health condition, he or she will have to provide a written declaration.
Sandakphu situated at a height of 11,930 ft on the Singalila ridge in the Himalayas, offers panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga, the Everest, Makalu and Lhotse.
