Jamling Tenzing Norgay led the revival of Tenzing Norgay Trail through a special D-Hike during the third edition of the Darjeeling Melo Tea Fest, allowing around 300 trekkers to walk a route once used by the legendary mountaineer. The roughly 16-km trail, first explored during Himalayan Mountaineering Institute training expeditions.
Beginning at Chowrasta, trekkers descend around 8 - km to reach Rundung Khola, then climb 4-km uphill to Rangaroon before covering a final 4-km to 3rd Mile, a short distance from Ghoom. Beyond HMI, this trail holds immense potential to promote adventure tourism and support local communities.
The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, established on November 4 in 1954 under Major ND Dayal, launched India's first Mountaineering Course under Tenzing Norgay's guidance.
