The Buxa Tiger Reserve ( BTR) in North Bengal may be home to around 5 tigers. An official revealed this referring to the trend in the countrywide tiger census report that will make public. Accordingly to the official tiger counting in Sundarbans though is stable.
With presence of some tigers in the North Bengal Park will surely bring smiles to the faces of foresters, the number, some experts believe is “ very low”, considering the park’s connectivity with much larger tiger landscapes of Assam Manas Tiger Reserve and Bhutan’s Royal Manas National Park. An official says that of the scat samples sent to the Wildlife Institute of India from Buxa, only four to five, till now, were found to be from tigers.
“ The scientists are still analyzing the samples and working to find out how many individual tigers are there in the park. It can be less than five or a little more than that “, an official says.
“ We have sent around 58-60 samples to WII. We are not aware of the outcome”, says the DFD, Buxa Tiger Reserve.
