Meanam Hill
Trek up to Meanam hill top which holds breathtaking view of Sikkim Himalayas at an elevation of 10,300 ft. is the most popular and perhaps unmatched with any other place in this region of the Himalayas. A 14 kms trek route takes around 4 hrs through Meanam Wild Life Sanctuary that embraces a rare assortment Himalayan species like Himalayan Black Bear, Red Panda etc. and enriched with Oak, Pine, Rhododendron, Magnolia & Fir trees. Mighty Kanchenjunga and its surrounding snow capped hills looms on the Northern horizon and make dwarf the other forested hills. On a clear day it is possible to watch plains of West Bengal, Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills on to the South and right across the Indo-China border from the top of Meanam Hill. A short distance away from Meanam Hill Top is the legendary Bhaley Dunga, a kind of rocky spur which just out from the ridge top and remains suspended in the air above Yangyang Village. Borong village can be reached from here with just a gentle trek or to take more challenging route to Yangyang village.
