Ralang Monastery Located at a distance of 13 km from Ravangla, Ralang Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries and is regarded one of the most significant and consecrated monasteries in Sikkim. This monastery was built in 1768 AD to commemorate the successful pilgrimage of the fourth Chogyal to Tibet. It belonging to Kagyup order. The legend behind the monastery is “the 9th Karmapa, head of the Kagyupa sect, blessed the site of the monastery with grains of rice thrown from Tibet. The only to reach this monastery by quite tough trekking. In 1995, the new Monastery “Palchen Choeling Monastic Institute", was built by the 12th Gyaltsab Rimpoche. Ralang monastery is beutified by genuine Tibetan architectures and amazing collection of paintings. On the 15th day of the 7th month of the Buddhist Calender ( Aug-Sept) and on the 29th day of the tenth month of the Buddhist calendar ( December) the annual festival, known as “ Pang Lhabsol” or the worship of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Chaam masked Dances are celebrated every year. In the month of November, 'Mahakala dance' is also organized here to celebrate the religious reasons. Ralang Monastery is visited  by multitudes of tourists and pilgrims, who come to receive the blessings of the Almighty.
