Khecheopalri  Lake

Located at a distance of 30 kms from Pelling, Khecheopalri Lake is a tranquil lagoon amidst dense forest and considered to be sacred lake for the both Hindus and Buddhists. Besides prayer no water activity or any kind of  sport are allowed in and around of this sacred lake.

This consecrated lake is hidden under a thick forest cover of temperate vegetation and bamboo and the striking fact about the lake is that not  a single leaf is found in the water in spite of it located in a forested area.  It is believed that birds do not permit even a single leaf to float on the lake surface.

Khecheopalri Lake is known to be a “Wishing Lake” and during the month of February and March in every year a grand festival is celebrated here. In the vicinity of the lake Lepcha houses and communities are found. Interested visitors can spend a night in this beautiful place to have a splendid memory for the whole life. A trekkers hut is available here from Dept. of Tourism, Sikkim.
