Located in the heart of the Shillong city near Raj Bhawan this “ Horse Shoe” shaped artificial lake offers the most pleasant beauty spot in the city. This 100 yrs old Ward’s lake also know as “ Nan Polok” or “ Polok Lake”. This lake is quite popular for boatings as well as pleasant walks on the cobbled sand stone pathways, among beautiful, vividly colored flowers. with gradually undulating grounds, surrounded by a garden of flowers and pine trees, the lake offers a charming winding walk-a-way in the midst of rolling flower beds and fairyland lighting. It has a strikingly beautiful arched bridge. Boats of all sizes and shapes are available while the cafeteria provides you with delicious refreshments.

It's said that its construction was initiated by a bored prisoner who was ready to do any kind of work to get out of his cell. He was given the work of digging holes and filling them up again. Once he hit a spring and that spot was developed into a lake and garden. This place was named after Sir William Ward, the Chief Commissioner.
