Lachen

Lachen is located around 123 kms from the capital of   Sikkim and on the Gangtok North Sikkim highway at an elevation of 9000 ft. Lachen is a pleasant surprise to know that it was inaccessible to visitors until a few years ago and opened in Dec, 2000. This gifted natural wonderland offers the superb beauty of the place with its people, culture, monastery, valleys and magnificent colours of flowers.

Lachen – a very small village with fewer number of inhabitants is situated  on the banks of Lachen Chu ( in Bhutia language “Chu” means river and it is one of the major river other than Lachen Chu which for the mighty river Teesta – the lifeline of Sikkim and North Bengal). This small village is scattered on a plain land which is separated by deep ravines.

Lachen Monastery is located on the on a top of the village built in 1806 and belongs to the Nyingmapa order offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and country side. Lachen is a base station for the famous Green Lake and the Kanchenjunga National Park treks.
