Nathu La
Nathu-La situated on the old Silk Route at an elevation of 14,200 ft and 56 kms away from Gangtok town is an important Indo – China border. Nathu La is one of the highest motorable routes in India and richly covered with varieties of alpine flora and fauna. Most part throughout the year this tranquil border post is covered with a thick layer of snow.
Nathu-La is worth visit. This area is fully controlled by Indian Army and a special permit is required to visit this place. Nathu-La is open for five days in a week, ie. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only for Indian tourists. Nathu La is a wonderful place to behold the nature's splendor and admire the armed forces that stand without the fear of sun, rain or snow to guard their country.
