Thangu At an altitude of around 13,500 ft, Thangu is a recess for the visitors who acclimatize before proceeding to Gurudongmar Lake and Tso Lhamu ( source of the Lachen Chu), fabulous treks of Chopta Valley or Muguthang.  Thangu is 30 kms and around 2 hrs journey from Lachen. Scattered wooden hamlets with scanty population and army camps are spotted of Thangu’s alpine meadows with cool water of Lachen Chu flows through the valley form an excellent scenic beauty.  During spring this valley offers a riot of colours and becomes carpeted with its wild colourful flowers. During Winter this flower carpet is replaced by thick layers of snow and become quite inhospitable. Tree line disappear from Thangu and start a rough terrain which is comparable with the unreachable terrains of Tibet.
