At a height of 213 m above the sea level, Bhalukpong is in West Kameng District and gateway to the Western part of Arunachal Pradesh.  Bhalukpong lies on the bank of river Kameng is full of mesmerizing scenic beauty. The wide valley,  deep evergreen forest,  sparkling river, pure ambiance- all constitute the serenity of Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh.  Bhalukpong offers an excellent opportunity for river rafting and angling in river Kameng along with bird watching, trekking and hiking. It is the best spot to catch Masheer. Like few other Indian towns, Bhalukpong has escaped the virtual tourist invasion in recent times.

The weather in Bhalukpong is alpine and pleasant. Summers (April-June) are mild, while winters are cool (November-February). It experiences southwestern monsoon rains in July-September.

Spread over an area of 826 Sq Km and has the Kameng river in the west and Pakki river in the east, Pakhui Wild Life Sanctuary is situated in Bhalukpong. The deep green forest is a home for a treasure of several endangered species of the Bengal Tiger, the Great Pied Hornbill , white wined Wood Duck and a few endangered birds. There are a host of other birds, both resident and migratory. Among the other animals found in Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary are elephants, sambhar, gaurs, leopard, binturong, peacock pheasant, etc.

The vegetation of the sanctuary consists of a wide variety of floral species such as Hoolock (a huge tree), giant bamboos, orchids, pine, oaks, walnuts, spruce and rhododendrons.

Certain ancient ruins found strewn around Bhalukpong, also constitute a major tourist attraction. There are many forts in the place, built during the 10th to 12th centuries. The forts are believed to be the monuments of some defeated kings of Assam, of that period. Bhalukpong was governed by local tribal Aka rulers, with occasional political dominance from Bhutan and Assam. Ahom rulers of Assam did not interfere with the local tribals, except for retaliatory raids into the tribal territory. In 1873, the British had declared the area around Bhalukpong as off-limits. The annual festival Nyethidow of the Aka tribe is celebrated in March at Bhalukpong. Bhalukpong is inhabited by members of the Aka and Sherdukpen tribes. TIPI  ORCHIDARIUM : Tipi Orchidarium, a wonderful greenhouse is located around 7 km from Bhalukpong, is well know for housing amazing collection of about 500 species of Orchids. It is a botanical paradise and Government of Arunachal Pradesh has established an Orchid Research Centre to promote Orchid Conservation. Around 1150 species of orchids can be found in various parts in India and Arunachal Pradesh alone home for 52% of them. Nearly all of them can be found in Tipi Orchidarium.  At this site, one can also come across an Orchid Research that creates new hybrid of orchids using the latest Biotechnology.  Thus this is an ideal place for scientists who nurture their techniques of Biotechnology in order to give birth to new orchid varieties.  The best time to visit this center is between April and May, when one can see the exotic Orchid collection in full bloom.
